The Hawaiʻi Department of Taxation (DOTAX) has announced important updates and reminders for the 2026 tax filing season. Taxpayers are encouraged to prepare early by gathering all necessary tax documents, including Forms W-2, HW-2, 1099s, and any other records needed to complete their state income tax return accurately.
Taxpayers are encouraged to file their returns electronically and choose direct deposit for the fastest refund processing. Before filing, gather all required tax documents—including Forms W-2, 1099, and other supporting records—and carefully review your return for accuracy. Even minor errors, such as incorrect taxpayer identification numbers or missing information, can delay processing.
DOTAX also reminds taxpayers to remain vigilant against tax-related scams. Be cautious of unsolicited emails, text messages, or phone calls requesting personal or financial information or demanding immediate payment. If you receive suspicious communications, verify their legitimacy through official government channels before responding.
